Orange
County Model A Club's
Pancake Breakfast
&
RWB Party Props.
March 13, 2005
On
Sunday March 13th we had our
Monthly tour which took us to the Orange County Model A Club's Pancake
Breakfast, and then to RWB Party Props Inc. We began the tour at The
Bagelry in Long Beach, and made our way East on Katella towards the
City of Orange. Once we reached Hart Park we were all greeted by
several Model A club members who guided our vehicles into the display
area. There were approximately 200 plus antique vehicles on display.
The vehicles ranged from Model T's, various Chevrolets, and a variety
of other makes and models, but the Model A was the predominate
vehicle.
This
being the first time I had attended this event, I was pleasantly
surprised to see the amount cars out on display. Some of the members
mentioned that this was a smaller show of cars than in years past.
Once we were situated in the show, the members made their way to the
breakfast. After everyone ate, most made their way to the raffle
tables were they had well over 100 prizes available. Everything from
Model A Bell Housings to carburetors, clocks and tools, it was all up
for grabs. Others like myself made their way down to the show to
admire all of the vehicles on display. Clubs from all over the state
were represented, as well as Arizona and Nevada. It was quite a site
to see. Once the raffle was over everyone made their way back to
their cars and we headed to RWB Party Props.
Upon our arrival at RWB Party Props, our host Bobby
Babcock was in the parking lot waiving everyone in. Bobby's business
is located in an old packing and shipping plant which housed several
businesses prior to him acquiring it in the mid 80's. Here he
explained all of the types of props he supplies, and the events and
businesses he supplies them for. He then proceeded to take us through
his facility; along the way he pointed out various artifacts, props
that he had purchased or made, and the time it took to maintain some
of the equipment. Half way through the tour, he brought us to a room
that he uses in restoring a vintage rail car that is located next to
his building. Along with cars Bobby collects trains and railroad
memorabilia. Bobby currently has a full functional train, as well as
several miles of laid track at his home in the Temecula area. Here he
also provides tours and demonstrations to various clubs and
organizations. At the conclusion of the tour Bobby took us to where
he houses some of the cars that he rents for events. One of these
cars was a 1925 Model TT Truck, which resided at Disneyland next to
the Jungle Cruise for about 10 years. Many of the members recognized
the car immediately. This concluded the tour, and a great day. A
thank you goes out to Bobby for opening his doors and spending his
Sunday with us, as well as all the members that came out to the
tour. Looking forward to seeing everyone out on the April Tour.
