Pasadena Shop Tour
May 28, 2005
On
Saturday May 28th 9 cars left Long Beach heading to Pasadena. We
picked up one more along the way. After an easy drive, we arrived at
the shop of Loren Burch. There we meet another party waiting for us.
Loren was working on a 1912 Cadillac for man in Rhode Island. After
telling us about the cars’ history, he gave us a tour of his new shop.
Among the many cars in his shop were a 1909 Reo, a 1919 Pierce Arrow,
a 1930 Lincoln, a 1912 Stanley Steamer (that was in the movie
Seabiscuit), a Duesenberg Roadster Straight 8 (one of 35 known to
exist), a Model T Town car, a Tourist, and a Stevens-Duryea, plus some
cars under construction. He also has some toys, a Wurlitzer musical
player, and a popcorn machine on display. Loren gave us information on
most of the cars there, answering questions about their history and
some of his own background.
Next we visited the shop of Pete Eastwood. Pete is well
known for his work in Model T Speedsters, along with early cars. He is
working on a TT truck with a V8 in it, and a speedster with an
overhead T engine, with a most ingenious shifting arrangement. I heard
some speed secrets being discussed by some of our members; Pete sure
is the one to ask. He also had his 1910 Stevens-Duryea and 1905 Buick
for us to view. A well-known T expert Wes Buck and his wife Susan were
there with two 1909 T’s. One is fully restored and the other is a
newly acquired project from Pete.
After a most enjoyable morning we drove to Fuddruckers
for lunch. 20 plus members were there to eat, talk about the shops and
suggest other places they would like to go. If you were unable to make
this tour, make plans to join us next time.
