The
Big Train Show at the Queen Mary
June 12, 2005
Some
seventeen vintage vehicles started the voyage to the RMS Queen Mary
from the Baglery under the command of Captain Will Campbell and his
wife Susan in a 26 T touring. Traveling via Belmont Shore and downtown
Long Beach to the Big Train Show aboard the RMS Queen Mary where the
tour was escorted by the ships security car to our exclusive parking
area mid ship. The clubs vintage vehicles were prominently displayed
adjacent to the outdoor exhibits of the Big Train Show. Hundreds of
show attendees, visitors and ship hotel guests enjoyed viewing the
LBMTC vehicles.
Club members drove a variety of vintage vehicles
including Model T’s, Chevrolets, Model A’s and even a yellow Model T
disguised as a Porsche courtesy of Phylis Horner. Dean Grose drove
his 24 T and wife Wendy in her elegant Model A. Pete and Rose Cosner
gracefully cruised to the ship with Joan in their 27 Depot Hack.
Lonnie Gibson appropriately brought his 30 A pick up to carry all
those model trains back home. Jeff and Jane Hood with their lovely
ladies Kelly and Katie arrived with nautical style in their 23 Fordor.
President Julie and John Ginesi brought special club member Catherine
Moye in a 24 Fordor. Sonny Bishop and Eddie arrived with flying
colors. Jon Von Karvaly Model T ran like clockwork below decks with a
perfectly functioning carburetor. The McCombs klan: David, Janis, Dan
and Cody were ready to sail in their 490 and 30 Chevy’s while Red and
Erma Baysinger’s compass almost missed the ship in a 22 T Coupe. Mac
and Diane MacPherson navigated their Jittney Bus into port and filled
it with trains. Robert and Mary Jane Teitsworth arrived ship shape in
a 26 pickup. John Craig drove his beautiful Model T Delivery Truck for
all to see. The Widow Maker himself Bob Schwinck introduced the staff
of the Big Train Show to the LBMTC by kindly providing rides in his 22
T.
LBMTC members toured the Big Train Show featuring G
Gauge electric and live steam trains. Some members found the LBMTC
club logo traveling on the Del Oro Pacific operating layout vintage
vehicle railcar. Others club members discovered the many exhibitors
and now own vast quantities of model trains. The management staff of
the Big Train Show took numerous pictures of the vehicles for possible
future publicity.
We would like to thank everyone for participating in
the tour. The management of the Big Train Show has graciously invited
the LBMTC to return in 2006.
