Workman & Temple Family
Homestead Museum
September 18,
2005
Sunday September
18, 2005 5 Model T’s, 2 Model A’s, and a 1917 Dodge made the trip to
the Workman and Temple Homestead Museum. 21 Long Beach Model T Club
members enjoyed a picnic lunch in the park-like surroundings of the
museum.
After lunch we took a 1 1/2 hour guided tour of the well furnished and
maintained grounds of this six acre site.
The six acre site is what’s left of a 48,000 acre working ranch owned by
the Workman and Temple families from 1840 to 1930. The cities of
Hacienda Heights, Roland Heights, Baldwin Park, Walnut, and The City
of Industry are now within those 48,000 acres.
The 11/2 hour guided tour of the furnished home and well maintained
grounds was a learning experience of how wealthy families lived and,
and how thru bad investments and the 1929 stock market crash could
leave you with just 6 acres. The home and land is owned by The City
of Industry, who have maintained the home with its stained glass, art,
furnishings, and well preserved structure. This was definitely a
wonderful tour, and would be well worth it to visit again. Thanks to
all of the Club Members that participated.
