Breakfast & Shop Tour
February 18th,
2006
On Saturday, March 18th, the Long Beach Model T
Club defied the weather and made their way out to the monthly club
tour. Though the temperatures were cool (for Southern Californian
standards) on this Saturday morning, there were 5 Model T’s, 2 Model
A’s, and 1 Overland fired up and ready to go.
At 8:30 A.M. we departed The Bagelry in Long Beach and made our way to
Carrow’s in the City of Cerritos for the monthly Club Breakfast. With
others joining us along the way, the LBMTC filled the back room of
this small restaurant with close to 40 members. It was quite amusing
to see the waitresses watch as all of the members file into the room
and take their seats. It’s as if they were expecting a quiet morning,
and then we showed up.
During breakfast Members enjoyed conversing with one another about recent
events. Marcia Harris even put on a small magic show for the kids
while they waited for their food.
Once everyone had their fill we headed off to The Olsen’s to see their
beautiful home, and car collection. When we arrived, we were greeted
by 4 open garages full of cars and antiques that have been collected
over the years by Ken and Gerry. And man I am telling you , if you
have never been to the Olsen’s to visit you, are definitely missing
out. The collection of cars were amazing.
As everyone walked through the garages, Ken was kind enough to explain
how he came to acquire most of his prized possessions. After
everyone caught their breath from walking through the garages, Gerry
escorted us to the “Small” room they have above the garage. To quote
the late Harry Carry, “Holy Cow!”. This small room was able to seat
the 30 plus club members comfortably, while Ken presented a video
about Bob Lingo and his Vintage Electric Car. After the video the
Club kindly thanked The Olsen’s for the gracious hospitality, and we
jumped back into our cars for the final destination.
At the Ginesi’s garage John displayed his newly acquired Faultless
Speedster. “Humble” Howard then gave us all a quick lesson on “Rajo
Heads 101”. This too was amazing car. The machining and
craftsmanship that went into building the vintage racer was
incredible.
I would like to thank The Olsen’s and the Ginesi’s for inviting the Club
and taking the time to allow us to view there garages and homes.
See you all next month at the Model A Pancake Breakfast.
